Hey guys. I've been hearing a lot about the zoon from microsoft. It's supposedly pretty good. I was wondering if anyone knew anything about, and/or whether it was accessible. Thanks

i've heard that it is, but one thing my friend didn't like was the software that comes with it. it was a big resource hog from waht i understand. the player itself was really good from my understanding though

Is your friend blind, and what exactly do you mean by "resource hog?" I know itunes isn't accessible, but I am wanting a mp3 player that has a lot of memory, and I thought this one might be more accessible than the ipod. Just let me know.

ur'rhrhrhrhr[h apostrophe r]'rr'hrhrrhhrhrg! Yes, I know the Zune, it's terr'rhrhrhrhhr'r'r'r'hrhrhrrhiblblblblblbbll'l'll'l'l'l!!!!! No accessibility except a tiny clicking sound, MS likes to change the menus, the newer zunes have a weird touch sensative pad (which actually follows your motion unlike the Ipod clickwheel...)

Get a rockbox compatible player! It's way better! Trust me!

Well, that's good to know. Ipods are just as bad. I hated minehere was way too much stuff to mess up. I could accidentally change the language, and not even know it.

Yeah, but several Ipod's work with Rockbox which has voice options.

HTH.

I love my unmodified iPod! It's the most accessible player I've ever had, and the most stable!

Post 8 by faithful angel (I'll have the last word, thank you!) on Monday, 09-Jun-2008 20:22:00

unmodified ipod? Are you saying that you have an ipod with no rockbox on it?

Post 9 by forereel (Just posting.) on Tuesday, 10-Jun-2008 0:00:03

Buy one and see what you think. You can return it before 30 days fully money back. Microsoft will supporrt you, plus it works pretty easy, but that is a user thing. I Pods are easy if your looking for meg space.

first of all, itunes doesn't work with jaws unless you buy the scripts for it. Second of all, ... it was just awful!

Post 11 by tunedtochords (Zone BBS is my Life) on Tuesday, 10-Jun-2008 9:10:05

Speak for yourself. I've been using an iPod for 4 years with no trouble. It's true that JAWS and iTunes have grown less and less compatible with each successive version of JAWS *and* iTunes (so it's not just the fault of Apple). But Apple has their own screen reader on their own OS, and that supports iTunes fully.

Post 12 by faithful angel (I'll have the last word, thank you!) on Tuesday, 10-Jun-2008 14:48:15

I am and have. You have a mac, and so, of course, you have no problem. Look, All I want is a twenty gig or more mp3 player that is accessible. With JAWS I might add. You must and can only use what you have to work with.

I thought there was a version of ITunes that was sort of accessible?

Post 14 by purple penguin (Don't you hate it when someone answers their own questions? I do.) on Tuesday, 10-Jun-2008 18:37:14

I would be afraid of accidently activating the wireless feature on the Zune.

Post 15 by Jesse (Hmm!) on Tuesday, 10-Jun-2008 19:32:35

Ok. Here's the deal. You *can* use iTunes with Windows without buying scripts. It's not a beautiful experience, but there are other pieces of software which will allow you to transfer music to and from your device. Winamp comes to mind as one of them. You do have to use iTunes to activate the iPod, and download software and such things, but as I said, it can be done. As far as the device itself, Amanda's right. It's easy to use, providing you tag your music correctly and stuff...I was skeptical at first, but it was Amanda who told me the basics, and I got rolling from there. I learned the iPod in an hour, and anybody can if they stop pissing and moaning about the negative, and use what positive things they have to navigate it.

Well.... tell me then. I really seriously want to know. I have an ipod (sixth generation), and I thought about taking it back. How can you delete your music from the ipod without using itunes? Is it possible? If you want, send me a message with all this info, or just leave it here.

Post 17 by Jesse (Hmm!) on Tuesday, 10-Jun-2008 21:20:34

You could use Anapod explorer, wwwlredchairsoftware.com. it costs like $20 which is nill compared to those icky iTunes scripts for $100. I used it for years with Windows, but then I got the Mac so didn't need it anymore.

Post 18 by faithful angel (I'll have the last word, thank you!) on Tuesday, 10-Jun-2008 21:22:46

this is when I sort of wish I had a mac. Oh well. I couldn't help the fact that my computer died a week before I was supposed to start school.

Hey Jesse, I went to the site, and I'm pretty sure I want to buy the version that is compatible with "full" ipods correct, or should I buy the one for "all" ipods?

Heres what i have to say about the zune. A couple years ago i bought one of the original 30 gb zunes. I liked the player for a couple of reasons. One reason i liked it is that the tactile click that most hd players make could be heard from the headphones instead of the player. The h10 that i had before the zune made the click from the player so it was hard to use. Another reason i liked it was the controls were verry usable from an accessible standpoint. There is a directional pad and easily detected buttons instead of one of those anoying scroll devices. The menus also rap around to the top and bottom but this wasn't a problem because if you hold down the up or down arrows it stops at the top or bottom of the menus not rapping until you tap the arrows again. From what i remember battery life was ok on it. One problem is the player does not include a power chord so it must be charged through usb wich takes a long time. However i was able to find a power chord at best buy that worked with it. As far as the software it looks a lot like wmp. It was a lot slower then most programs I used however it was a pretty new product when i got it so the glitches might be worked out now. When i plugged in the zune it was easy to sync and it coppied my whole music library so i did not have to drag and drop. I have seen one of the new 8 gb zunes (one of my friends had one) but have never used it so can't comment on how accessible it is. What i did notice is the controls looked the same. The main difference i noticed is the 8 gb version was a lot thinner because of flash memory.

Well, I've bought an ipod and am going to put rockbox on it I think. I don't know. i might. We'll see how it works.

Post 22 by zeekerdude (Generic Zoner) on Sunday, 22-Jun-2008 18:23:50

i don't use itunes i use a program called ipod explorer and i love it. I use an 80 gig ipod with rockbox and i love it.

Post 23 by faithful angel (I'll have the last word, thank you!) on Monday, 23-Jun-2008 0:32:28

Well, I'm using a program called xplay. I am not using rockbox. I'm doing well just with my ipod. I like it.

Post 24 by kelly (Zone BBS Addict) on Monday, 23-Jun-2008 15:57:55

ok I'm confused what is the difference between xplay and the anapod explorer thing. How do you go about instawling them and how do they work with jfw exactly. I just don't understand.

Post 25 by faithful angel (I'll have the last word, thank you!) on Monday, 23-Jun-2008 16:18:48

OK, I don't know about anopod, except for the fact the it doesn't work with the classic. It stops working after the ipod video. With Xplay, you can just copy and paste your music in to the all music folder, or whatever folder you want. It's very easy. I'm using the free trial version of xplay. I don't know when it runs out though, but it is very accessible. If you have a classic, use this one. If you have an ipod video or earlier, you can also use this one. I tried it because it had a free trial thing, and I was curious as to whether or not it worked, and it works fine. One question, how would I go about tagging my music? For example, I have a few sound tracks that I want to add to my ipod, and I want all the songs from that soundtrack to be in the same folder even though they are by different artists. How would I do that? Any help would be very greatly appreciated.

Brandon dude, that's from 2 years ago!!! Starting with zune software and firmware 2.0 the click is a lot quieter, they changed the menus, the software just shows up as a blank screen with jaws, though you can tab around it, and theGUI is a lot different (no menu bar and sync option, you click the device button, which, somehow is in a list box, then click start sync)... Also the newer Zunes use a "zunepad" (a touch sensative control.)

Post 27 by faithful angel (I'll have the last word, thank you!) on Thursday, 26-Jun-2008 0:35:19

Hmmm, that sounds awful!!! I am still loving my unmodified ipod video! It's awesome!
